Standby Task Force supporting FEMA in response to Hurricane Dorian

On August 28th 2019, Hurricane Dorian intensified from a tropical wave into a massive hurricane, with it reaching Category 5 status on September 1. Standby Task Force activated on September 4th to support FEMA by collecting information on the status of hospitals affected by Hurricane Dorian in the United States.

Volunteers have compiled 166 reports of hospitals in affected coastal areas of Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia based on broadcast and social media. This information has been compiled into a map, which is able to give responders a good picture of the scenario across the Eastern US seaboard. In addition, due to the devastation the hurricane caused in the Bahamas, we also decided to compile information on the status of hospitals and clinics in the Bahamas.

We are happy to say that not only is the information being found extremely useful for response efforts in the US, but the data we collected on the Bahamas is also being shared with responders there.
