SBTF deployed to assist with response efforts for Hurricane Michael

Hurricane Michael hit the US states of Florida and Georgia in October 2018, and wreaked havoc on the East Coast of the USA. It was one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the United States and entire waterfront communities were obliterated. More than a million homes and businesses were without electricity in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Virginia and North and South Carolina
The Standby Task Force was in coordination calls with FEMA and became aware that there was a gap in the information being collected, with very little information about vital medical facilities. As research and information gathering is something we do very well, we have agreed to deploy to fill this gap. This is very similar to the Hurricane Florence deployment so it was straightforward to jump in and find the information. We activated 48 hours, although were ready to extend this time depending on information needs and situation changes as they arise.
In the end, the information was extremely useful for FEMA, even the information about where there were not problems with damage, flooding and power was helpful.
*So thank you, and this deployment is now over!
