Update #1 on Refugees in the Balkans deployment

This is the first update on the deployment for refugees on the Balkan route.

You may have noticed that this update doesn’t come from Ben. As he won’t have reliable internet connection for the next days, I will update you on the development of our deployment for refugees on the Balkan route.

A short introduction:

My name is Valeria and I have been a SBTF coordinator for more than a year before joining the Core team. If this is not your first deployment, you very likely already know me. If you don’t know me, or if this is your first deployment, I am looking forward to meeting you during this activation.

The Standby Task Force has been activated by Internews

Our deployment to support Internews started today. We are helping investigate services and information flows for refugees traveling along the Turkey – Balkans – Germany route.

Thanks so much to everyone who has already joined. The situation is very fluid with borders being closed in some countries so it’s very important to stay in touch with the deployment chat.

Please help

We really need more volunteers though. Even if you’ve only got an hour to spare.

Please fill out the form you will find on the Ning http://standbytaskforce.ning.com/xn/detail/6313985:Event:41633?xg_source=activity

(the Google form is at the bottom of the page)

It would be great to have more speakers of Arabic, Pashtu, Dari and Tigrigna.

If you’ve got media monitoring skills you will be ideal for this. Volunteers who worked on needs and wants or 3W tasks especially have the skills we need.

This project will help improve services to refugees across a wide swathe of Europe. Only SBTF can do this. Only you can do this.

Other notes

We’re experimenting with using Slack for this deployment: it was Internews’ prefered channel. We’d be really interested in any feedback on whether we should consider it in the future.

If you have joined the deployment but haven’t completed the Google form, please do, it helps us make sure we know who’s working on the deployment.

Sign up & onboarding:

Please fill out the form you will find on the Ning http://standbytaskforce.ning.com/xn/detail/6313985:Event:41633?xg_source=activity

At the very bottom of the page you can find the link to the Google form that you will have to fill to be added to the Slack channel we are using for this deployment.

Within 12 hours after you completed the Google form, you will receive an invitation to join our Slack channel.
